Fushimi Inari-taisha is the principal shrine of Inari, kami (god) of rice, agriculture, fertility and foxes. The shrine is famous for the many hundreds of torii gates lining paths up the mountainside, together with thousands of stone foxes (kitsune) who are messengers to the gods, and also guardians of the rice granary
