American inmate that have managed to beat the odds and stay away from crime after his release from prison. Reading to his young daughter. The US national recidivism rate is over 67 percent according to the US Department of Justice. For a released inmate to manage to get an education and a job is sadly not common. Race plays a role too and the recidivism rate is higher among Hispanic and African-American ex-inmates compared to Caucasian or white ex-inmates.
