After the traditional Japanese Shinto wedding ceremony families gather for a formal portrait sitting, at Meiji Jingu Shrine; near Harajuku station; Tokyo. Here the bride and groom pose for a more informal shot after the formal photo sitting. There are several layers of the brides white kimono and a silk brocade covers all. Traditionally the bride will be completely covered from head to toe in white as a symbol of purity. A traditional head covering called a tsuno kakushi literally meaning "to hide horns" is also worn by the bride, traditionally to signify that she will be a serene and patient wife. The groom's ensemble is simpler, in a traditional Shinto wedding ceremony he'll wear dark pleated pants, and a short black kimono, emblazoned with his family seal. ©Paul Quayle
