seen against a clear blue sky, one of the art deco lamps that survived the demolition of the west london firestone tyre factory in 1980, just hours before a preservation order came into effect. the factory was an art deco landmark on the great west road, or A4, a main route in and out of london purpose-built for industry and now dominated by the office blocks and retail premises of tv, computer, pharmaceutical and other companies.
