Albinism is a conditions caused by partial or full absence of the melanin pigment. The abnormality is characterized by lighter than normal skin, white or blond hair and pink irises. Albinos, in general, have lower than normal visual acuity. Their skin is very sensitive to the sun and they are more susceptible to skin cancers. They must protect themselves with sunscreen and, as further protection, avoid direct sunlight.
