An advert for the Abbey National Building Society - it appeared in a magazine published in the UK in 1947. The advert promotes sitting tenants request buying their home from their landlord - owning it with the aid of a loan from the building society. Abbey National was the first building society in the UK to demutualise, doing so in 1989. The bank expanded through a number of acquisitions in the 1990s and in 2003 the bank rebranded as Abbey. In 2004 it became a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Spanish Santander Group. In 2010 it was renamed Santander UK – vintage 1940s graphics for editorial use only.
