The ancient 17th Century Buddhist monastery in Tawang is perched at around 13, 000 ft above sea level. It is the cultural and religious center for the mainly tribal people that are indigenous to western Arunachal Pradesh, India. The monastery is the largest in India and is home to some 500 monks.
