More information:

Ano Syra "through" an abandoned factory (tannery), Ermoupolis, Syros island, Cyclades, Aegean sea, Greece. Syros is unique among all the other Greek islands because it is inhabited by 2 different religious communities, one Catholic and one Orthodox. The Catholics mostly live in Ano Syra, the old, medieval "Chora" (=capital) of the island, while the Orthodox mostly live in Ermoupolis, a newer town (19th century) and modern capital of the island and Cyclades, a town full of beautiful neoclassical buildings. While approaching the port of Syros you can see the typical view of the island with the two different towns the one next to the other. To the left you will see the hill of Ano Syra, with the Catholic Cathedral of Sa Tzortzi (Saint George) on top. To the right you can see Ermoupolis and Dili hill, with the Orthodox church of Anastasis (Ressurection) on top of it. The island's population is almost split in two, and they have a long tradition of harmonious coexistence.
