Apollonia National Park, Israel. 24th May, 2015. The Crusader Fortress Arsouf (as named under Crusader rule) was protected by a dry moat and entry was through a wooden bridge. Apollonia National Park, named after the god Apollo, is located on a cliff named Tel Arshaf overlooking the Mediterranean, north of Tel-Aviv. Founded by the Phoenicians in the Persian Period (6th century BCE) it was conquered from the Muslims by the Crusaders in 1191 CE. The fortress was built in 1241 CE dominating the harbor.
