Bamboo matting used to cover the gable end of a house. This is made by splitting bamboo stems and weaving the resulting flexible strips. The dark green outside of the stem is alternated with the white inside to produce a pattern. The matting is very strong and is used as a building material. Used like this it allows air flow through the roof space where agricultural produce is stored. Bumthang, Bhutan, Drul Yul. 16 November 2007
