25.08.2016, Moldova, Transnistria, Bender - Sculpture of the Russian general Alexander Lebed as the memorial for the Transnistria conflict. Transnistria is a Moldavian partial republic under the Russian influence east of the river Dnister. The region split in 1992 after a war lasting several months from Moldova and is not recognized by any other country. The fighting in 1992 ended only by the intervention of the 14th Army stationed there, commanded by General Lebed. There were over 1000 dead, one of their names can be read on the memorial tablet. Even the Russian-dependent entity is known as the Transdnestrovian Moldavian Republic (Pridnestrovkaja Moldavskaja Respublika / PMR). Bender is the second largest city in the region. 00A160825D358CAROEX.JPG
