More information:

Fort Laramie was a US Army military post on the Oregon, California and Mormon Trails from June 16 1849 to March 2 1890, when it was abandoned and auctioned, and its buildings vulnerable to lumber scavengers. Foundations of barracks on the east side of the Parade Ground. The New Guardhouse (right background) dates to 1876, the Old Bakery (left background) to 1876, Commissary Storehouse (far left background) to 1883. The National Park Service took over the site and began restoration in the 1950s.
