Boys herd donkeys laden with brush gathered for use in cooking and heating, on a dirt road outside of Dashak village, in Gulran District near the border with Iran, Herat Province. The unsustainable cutting of small trees, bushes and other brushy plants has increased the erosion of the soil in the region, and to the instabliity of slopes, leading to more landslides.
