Bronze metal statue of King Richard III in body armour holding his crown aloft with the spire of Leicester Cathedral in the distance, Castle Park Gardens, Leicester, England, UK. Plaque on base of statue reads "Richard III King of England 1483 1485". King Richard was killed at the Battle of Bosworth on 22nd August 1485. Richard is holding a dagger in his other hand. The statue was made by James Walter Butler and was unveiled on 31 July 1980 by Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester. The statue was commissioned and contributed by members of the Richard III Society. Footnote: This statue was removed from Castle Gardens on 19-Aug-2014 for restoration before being re-erected outside Leicester Cathedral where King Richard's bones were re-interred on 26-Mar-2015
