Cattle feed lot in Ingalls Kansas.Thousands of head of cattle in a feed yard which is a type of animal feeding operation which is used in intensive animal farming for finishing livestock mostly beef cattle. Once cattle obtain an entry-level weight of about 700 pounds they are transferred to a feedlot to be fed a specialized animal feed which consists of corn, milo, barley and other grains and vitamins, minerals antibiotics and other essential ingredients. Feedlot diets are high i protein, to encourage growth of muscle mass and the deposition of some fat which is desirable to consumers. once cattle gain an additional 400 pounds they are transported to a slaughterhouse.
