Headline statistics show the pass rate has risen from 89.8% to 94.3%, while the proportion awarded the top grade has risen to more than one in five. *...while girls comprehensively beat boys yet again, the trend was bucked at one all-male grammar school in Birmingham, where no less than nine former pupils scored five A-grades and 41 - nearly half the year - got three or more.
