The Channel Tunnel undersea 8.36m diameter South Rail Tunnel Boring Machine passing through the vast UK Crossover Cavern on its way to meet with its French TBM counterpart in mid Channel. The Crossover was built under the sea about 8 kilometres out from Dover and on completion allows trains to switch from track to track It is 163m long, 21m wide and 9 5m high and, together with the French equivalent, is an astonishing feat of engineering The Channel Tunnel was the greatest construction project of the 20th century and is considered to be one of the wonders of the modern world
