More information:

Chinatown, San Francisco occupies 24 blocks and are home to to one of the largest Asian communities outside Asia. It is one of the cities most energetic and ethnically distinct neighborhoods. It has several 100 year old temples, fortune cookie factories and numerous exotic stores. The Chinese have been present for longer and in greater numbers than any other non-Anglo group in San Francisco. They have contributed tremendously to the city’s multicultural character. The 1849 Gold Rush was responsible for the influx of the Chinese to California. The Gold Rush didn’t last but many Chinese remained and found work on the railroads or farms. Chinatown is a major tourist attraction that draws even more attention than the Golden Gate Bridge.
