Chinese fishing nets, believed to have been introduced to India by Portuguese settlers from Macau in the 16th century, on the bay of Fort Cochin. Spanning 20 meters or more across and at least 10 meters high, with a cantilever and outstretched net suspended over the sea and large stones as counterweights, these nets have been in use in Fort Cochin for centuries, although these days are more used as tourism attractions.
