Circa 100 Kurds protest on criminalisation and political persecution of Kurds in Germany in Saarbruecken, Germany, 19 August 2006. The demanded the release of Kurdish politicians and journalists Muzaffer Ayata, Nedim Seven and Riza Erdogan as well as the release of former Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) head Abdullah Oecalan. The registered society Kurdish Community in Saarland, member of umbrella organisiation YEK-KOM, called on the protest. Member societies of YEK-KOM are going to close from 21 August 2006 and conduct hunger strikes to protest on the, from their point of view, persistent criminalisation practice. According to figures of YEK-KOM, about 6, 600 Kurds live in Saarland. Photo: Becker&Bredel
