Color enhanced image of Friedrich Engels (1820-1895), a German philosopher and writer. The son of a textile manufacturer, Engels became a founder of modern communism and socialism, a friend and collaborator of Karl Marx, and coauthor of "The Communist Manifesto." Engels and Marx worked together closely and Engels even supported Marx financially. After Marx's death he edited the second and third volumes of "Capital." Engels published other books such as "The Condition of the Working Class in England, " "The Peasant War in Germany" and "Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State."
