Dec. 4, 2012 - Los Angeles, California (CA, United States - Striking workers walk with a picket outside the Port of Los Angeles Tuesday December 4, 2012 in Los Angeles, California. The strike was launched last Tuesday by the 800-member International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 63 Office Clerical Unit, which had been working without a contract since June 30, 2010. With some 10, 000 ILWU members honoring the strikers' picket lines, the action has shut down 10 of the 14 cargo container terminals at the complex. At least 11 ships have diverted cargo to other ports, including in Mexico, since the strike began, and estimates say the strike is costing the U.S. economy about $1 billion per day. The strike is the largest work stoppage at the ports since shipping companies locked workers out for 10 days in 2002. (Credit Image: © Ringo Chiu/ZUMAPRESS.com)
