ELEPHANT PANDAS Either these elephants are making some kind of statement or this is the worst disguise ever! A group of Thai elephant handlers painted their beasts black and white in a bizarre protest about lack of funding for their mammals. They insist Thai elephants - the country's national symbol - are in desperate need of state help, while government officials shower money on a Chinese panda family at Chiang Mai zoo. One insider claims Thai officials plan to spend about 80 million baht (ú1.4 million) on a new snow house for the pandas at Chiang Ming, while many elephants are starving to death. The source says, "If elephants could paint themselves black and white like pandas, then maybe they would get some of that attention."
