Emporia, Kansas 3-20-2014 At 5:49 pm this afternoon an oversized vehicle that is hauling a farm grain storage tank snagged the overhead phone cable pulling it and four blocks of phone poles and street lights down along Commerical street and Merchant streets in Emporia. The truck belonging to Meridian Manufacturing Inc. of Storm Lake Iowa was driving south on state Route 99 which is the truck route that runs north and south thru Emporia for oversized vehicles which cannot pass under the bridges on the Interstate due to height restrictions. Emporia, Kansas 3-20-2014 At 5:49 pm this afternoon an oversized vehicle that is hauling a farm grain storage tank snagged the overhead phone cable pulling it and four blocks of phone poles and street lights down along Commerical street and Merchant streets in Emporia. The truck belonging to Meridian Manufacturing Inc. of Storm Lake Iowa was driving south on state Route 99 which is the truck route that runs north and south thru Emporia for oversized vehicles which cannot pass under the bridges on the Interstate due to height restrictions. The truck was being escorted by D-H pilot car service of Albert City Iowa. According to Emporia Fire Chief Jack Taylor there were no injuries and the only damage is to a few street lights and a number of wooden telephone poles that were snapped when the truck pulled the cable down.
