Engraving of Union Major General Benjamin Franklin Butler (November 5, 1818 – January 11, 1893), an American lawyer and politician who sat in the House of Representatives and served as the 33rd Governor of Massachusetts. During the American Civil War, he served as a controversial major general in the Union Army. Original engraving by John Buttre, circa 1866.
