Wat Xieng Thong, Luang Prabang, LaosMore information:
Wat Xieng Thong was built by King Setthathirath in1559-1560 near the junction of the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers. Wat Xieng Thong is one of the most important of Lao monasteries. Until 1975 the wat was a royal temple under the patronage of the royal family and the Lao kings were crowned here. There are over twenty structures on the grounds and the main wat has a giant ceremonial gong which I photographed using in camera zoom.
