The early 17th century Tolbooth stands on Glasgow Cross, site of the city's first market. It is seven storeys and 126 feet high. It was a debtor's prison, and the area in front of it was the site of public executions, and also the place where the fashionable, rich people, like the Tobacco Barons and their wives, liked to parade. It was designed by John Boyd.
