RMH2PDXY–1950s, historical, a chimera on the Notre-Dame Cathedral above the city of Paris, France. Unlike the famous gargoyles of Notre-Dame, the grotesque limestone figures designed as spouts to convey rainwater away from the roof, these stone statues do not protrude from the external walls. Instead, they line the Galerie des Chimères, a balcony that connects the two bell towers. Peering over the balustrade, where they keep watch over the city below, they were a new addition to the Cathedral in the mid 1800s when it underwent restoration. 56 chimera or grotesques as they are known were erected.
