Harrogate Spring Flower Show, 21 - 24 April 2016, organised by the North of England Horticultural Society and held at the Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, HG2 8NZ. Garden designers and landscapers created show gardens to provide ideas and inspiration for members of the public and the latest gardening trends were promoted. The show garden in this image won a Gold Award in the Community Spirit category and is entitled 'A Grand Day Out.' The design team was from Horticap Ltd which provides horticultural training for adults with learning disabilities. This fun garden aimed to be horticultural theatre with a display inspired by the famous cartoon characters, Wallace and Gromit. With the backing of Aardman Animations (the makers of Wallace and Gromit) the garden featured a picnic scene set in the open Yorkshire countryside. Planting included native hedging and trees, wild flowers and grasses which captured the region's famous countryside. Also included in the display were life-size papier-mâché sculptures of the characters and their friends as well as a rocket made from compost bins and other hand-crafted items including flowers and a toaster for Wallace’s all-important cheese snacks.
