Hedingham Castle and gardens, Castle Hedingham, Essex, England. The Norman keep is one of the finest and best preserved in England. The Castle was built by the de Veres, Earls of Oxford in circa 1140 and contains the largest Norman Arch in northern Europe. The Arch rises above the banqueting hall where King Henry V111 and Elizabeth 1 were entertained. During the early 1200's the castle was beseiged by King John. The bridge on right is from the Tudor period.
