More information:

Due to its isolated hillside location and difficult road access, Heptonstall has remained virtually unchanged over the centuries and survived as one of Yorksire's best examples of an old hand-loom weaving community. It is renowned for its atmospheric churchyard and the mosaic of ancient tombstones that lie between the old ruined church (abandoned after damage by a gale in 1854) and the later Victorian building. The American poet, Sylvia Plath, is buried here. She was married to Ted Hughes but took her own life in 1963. Heptonstall lies just off the route of the Pennine Way long distance foot path
