Her Majesty's Prison (HMP) Dartmoor located in Princetown the most remote prison in the British Isles. Construction started in 1805. By 1809 the prisoners from the Napoleonic wars with France were imprisoned here in the middle of Dartmoor. The prisoners of war were subsequently used as manual labourers to expand the prison and work on the prisons farms. The prison is still used today and holds a Category C rating.
