Hermitage Castle, Scotland. Picturesque early summer view of the historic ruins of Hermitage Castle’s western and northern façades. Hermitage Castle dates from approximately 1240 and is said to be situated in one of the historically bloodiest valleys in Scotland and, for four hundred years, was known as the ‘guardhouse of the bloodiest valley in Britain’. The castle is now managed by Historic Scotland and is open to the public between April and September.
