Horizontal aerial view of the terracotta roofs in the centre of Florence and the Palazzo Vecchio Bell Tower 'Campanile' dominating the skyline from the public viewing platform on the top of the Duomo. The Duomo is dedicated to Santa Maria del Fiore and is typical of Italian Gothic architecture. The present building was designed by Arnolfo di Cambio and construction was started in 1296. Tourists are able to climb up the 463 steps within the timbers of the inner shell of Brunelleschi's dome to enjoy the spectacular views across the terracotta roofs of Florence.
