Aug. 3, 1965 - London, England, U.K. - An American singer, actress, songwriter and entertainer, CHER (CHERILYN SARKISIAN) first rose to prominence in 1965 as one half of the pop duo Sonny & Cher. She also established herself as a solo recording artist, releasing 25 albums, contributing to numerous compilations, and tallying 34 Billboard Top 40 entries over her career. She became a television star in the 1970s and a film actress in the 1980s. In 1987, she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in the romantic comedy Moonstruck.
