Engraving by Theodor de Bry (1528-1598) from 1628 Latin edition of the Indiae Orientalis by Theodor and his sons Johann Theodor de Bry (1561–1623) and Johann Israel de Bry (1565–1609). This book was first published in Latin in 1599. The book sets out the travels of Jan Huygen van Linschoten (1563 to 1611) to Africa and the East Indies from 1583-1592 where he managed to learn much about the Portuguese navigational routes to the East Indies enabling the British and Dutch to start trade.
