The Dome interior is intrically decorated supported by Moorish arches. The Noble Sanctuary, Dome of the Rock, Temple Mount;Al Aqsa, the third holiest site for Islam since about 620 AD. Many believe it was the site of the Temple of Solomon, destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar in 586 BC, or the site of the Second Temple, completely destroyed by the Romans in 70AD. In 685AD the Umayyad Khalif, 'Abdul Malik ibn Marwan, commenced work on the Dome of the Rock.
