Istanbul, Turkey. 2nd Oct, 2004. Historic 17th century Sultan Ahmed mosque silhouetted by a dramatic sunset. Famous for the beautiful blue tile work ornamenting its interior walls it is also known as the Blue Mosque of Istanbul. Built in seven years (1609-1616) by the architect Mehmet Aga on the order of Sultan Ahmed I, it became the city's most important mosque with its one main dome, six minarets, and eight secondary domes. © Arnold Drapkin/ZUMA Wire/Alamy Live News
