The Cathedral of Milan is in Gothic and neo-Gothic style, for the Gothic west front was begun in 1616 and completed just 200 years later. From 1900 some of the less Gothic details of the facade were replaced in a true Gothic style, to designs of Giuseppe Brentano. The composite style is the result of many stages of decoration and construction, spanning more than three centuries, starting from the 16th century.
