John Barnard, 43, with his 29-year-old wife Diana, at Stockers Farm in Rickmansworth, after defending her honour in a pistol duel. He settled his difference with Dr Michael Carson, 53, in the time-honoured way at 10 paces with 100-year-old pistols loaded with real power and blank wads. Mr Barnard laid down the challenge to his fellow Londoner earlier this year after accusing Dr Carson of being to affectionate with his wife.
