First raced in 1927, The Cancer Research UK Boat Race is amongst the oldest sporting events in the world. The first boat race for men took place in 1829 in Henley on Thames following a challenge between old school friends. April 2017 will see the running of the 163rd Men’s Boat Race and the 72nd Women's Boat Race (and is the third time that the women have raced on the Thames) both races now take place on the Championship Course.
