London, UK. 22 October 2016. Rodney Kelly, a sixth-generation descendant of the Gweagal warrior Cooman shot in the leg by Captain Cook and his crew at their first landing in Australia at Botany Bay in 1770 spoke in front of his ancestor's shield in the British Museum. With other indigenous campaigners he is demanding the return of the shield as well as spears held in a Cambridge University museum to a new museum to be opened in Sydney on the 250th anniversary of Cook's visit celebrating the history of the country's original inhabitants, where it can be properly conserved, displayed and contextualised.
