This image is exclusive to Alamy The Jews House is one of the earliest town houses still in existence in England and is situated on Steep Hill in Lincoln UK. It dates from the mid-twelfth century and much of the original still survives, including the elaborately carved doorway, the remains of two Romanesque double-arch windows and the stonework on the upper storey. The house was associated with the thriving Jewish community in Medieval Lincoln, but the case of Little Saint Hugh of Lincoln in 1255 resulted in the entire Jewish community being expelled from England in 1290 and the house being seized from a Jewish owner.
