MITCH MITCHELL, drummer and last surviving member of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, was found dead in a Portland, Oregon, hotel, Nov. 12, 2006. Mitchell was touring with the 'Experience Hendrix Tour, ' which wrapped its West Coast leg Nov. 7, 2006. Sgt. Brian Schmautz, a Portland police spokesman, told the Oregonian that an employee at the upscale Benson Hotel called police after discovering Mitchell's body. 'It was natural causes, ' Schmautz said, 'so we weren't involved beyond that.' Mitchell pioneered a drumming style that would later be known as fusion. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 as part of the Jimi Hendrix Experience.
