London, UK. 3 September 2014. American model Carmen Dell’Orefice (born 1931), often cited as the ‘world’s oldest working model’, poses in front of a fashion portrait of her taken in 1946 by master 20th-century photographer Horst P. Horst for American Vogue, published in 1947. She first modelled for Horst (1906-1999) aged 14 and he became a lifelong mentor and friend. Opening on 6 September, Horst: Photographer of Style is a major V&A exhibition that will showcase Horst’s illustrious 60 year career and explore his work that spanned photography, art, fashion, design, theatre and high society. It will display 250 photographs, alongside haute couture garments from 1930s Paris, the 94 front covers of Vogue he photographed as well as never-before-seen film footage of him at work.
