Dawoodi bohra are shia muslims, more precisely they are a sub-sect of ismailism. Their forefathers migrated from Yemen to India in the 16° century. Now they are spread worldwide but most of them live in India, particularly in Mumbaï and in the state of Gujarat. They constitute a small, tight-knit community ( about 1.000.000 people in the world). Many of them are merchants or businessmen. They have their own language, their own dress code. This photo is showing bridegrooms participating to a collective marriage. On this occasion, 108 men married 108 women !
