Oct. 9, 2011 - Atlanta, GA - Atlanta Gay Pride Parade multi-colored flag moves down Peachtree Street as parade begins. It one of the largest in the U.S., coincides with National Coming Out Day celebrations. Thousands gathered at Piedmont Park in the city's predominately gay midtown for the festival. Atlanta is in the top three 'gayest' cities in the U.S. with nearly 13 per cent of the city's adult population identifying as gay. This is surprising in the middle of the old Bible belt and Deep South with all that has historical meant, but Atlanta is a large cosmopolitan city now and has become a gay magnate for many escaping the anti-gay pressures of the small town South.
