Old Workings - Kimberley Diamond Mines - The Diamonds are found in a grayish soil called blue clay. Originally, each miner dug his own claim, the deeper they dug, the more claims fell in upom another, necessitating the amalgamation of many claims into a few large mines, circa 1898
