Ortona castle, abruzzo, italy. Ortona is a coastal town in the Province of Chieti. During World War II Ortona was the site of fierce fighting between German and Canadian forces, so the town was called by Winston Churchill the "Little Stalingrad", because the town centre was almost completely destroyed.Today is an important harbour on the Adriatic sea and the final destination of the pilgrimage of Saint Thomas, the apostle, who is buried in the Cathedral since 1258.
