In China, yin and yang designate the two forces of the cosmos. These opposing forces make up a whole and cannot be separated. Yin is generally associated with passivity and yang with movement. According to Confucian philosophy, yin and yang symbolize the original principal of the universe. The traditional Taiji or Tai-ki symbolization shows yin in yang and yang in yin.
